Studying Tourism at Worms University of Applied Sciences
By choosing the Bachelor’s degree programme in Tourism and Travel Management, you are opting for a business studies degree with a focus on tourism.
What sets this programme apart:
- Broad scope: You’ll gain an understanding of the entire tourism value chain, rather than specialising in individual sub-sectors at an early stage. This allows you to remain flexible and set your own priorities as you progress through the programme.
- Practical application: You’ll apply the knowledge you’ve learnt in case studies and seminars and gain professional experience during your work placement semester.
- Future-proof: You’ll lay the foundations for a wide range of specialist and managerial roles in the tourism industry, whilst also meeting the requirements for a subsequent Master’s programme. The 6-semester version of the programme is also available as a dual study programme.

Your career prospects
Tourism is a major economic sector and a key employer in Germany. Digitalisation and increasing sustainability requirements are transforming the industry. There is a demand for skilled professionals who can help shape this transformation.
This degree programme prepares you for careers in almost all areas of tourism and transport.
Course content
The course is clearly structured. At the start, you will learn the fundamentals, such as general business administration and marketing. From the outset, the programme also includes foreign languages as well as intercultural and sustainability-focused modules.
As the programme progresses, you will gradually deepen your knowledge and explore specific areas of tourism and transport in greater depth, including:
- Tour operator and travel distribution management
- Transport mode management
- Regional tourism development
- Hotel management
- Business travel management
- Event Management
In the fourth semester, you will gain at least 20 weeks’ practical experience during a placement semester – either in Germany or abroad. Many students subsequently write their Bachelor’s thesis in collaboration with the organisation where they undertook their placement, or start their professional careers there straight away.
From the fifth semester onwards, your seminars will take on a more research- and practice-oriented focus. You will apply your knowledge to critically analyse issues relating to tourism. In the final semester, you will take part in a dedicated module focusing on the specific challenges of digitalisation in the tourism sector.
Optionally, you can spend a semester abroad in the sixth semester. If you choose not to do so, you will study for six semesters instead of seven and graduate with a total of 180 ECTS credits.
