The Faculty of Tourism and Transport is shaped by various committees in which lecturers, staff and students are involved in key decision-making. These committees ensure that students have a say in matters relating to research and teaching, support the further development of degree programmes and represent the interests of the student body.
The Faculty Council is composed of elected members from several groups. These include teaching staff, students, and academic and non-academic staff. The Faculty Council elects the Dean and the Deputy Dean.
The Faculty Council decides on fundamental matters relating to research and teaching within the Faculty. This includes, for example, the following.

The Academic Committee for Studies and Teaching advises degree programmes in various areas. These include, for example, the following.
- It advises on the structure of degree programmes and on programme reforms.
- It assists with the preparation of study plans and examination regulations.
- It ensures that a sufficient number of courses are offered and provides support in organising teaching activities.
- It advises on quality assurance issues.

The Tourism and Transport Students’ Council is the student self-governing body of the department. Its members represent the entire student body of the Faculty of Tourism and Transport.
Among other things, the Student Council carries out the following tasks.
- It helps organise events within the department and at the university, such as the university ball, the Tourism Party and the ‘Meet your Prof’ event.
- It helps organise the freshmen days, including a campus tour and a campus rally.
- It acts as a point of contact for students.
- It organises excursions, in consultation with the department.

Scientific institutions
In addition to its self-governing bodies, the Faculty of Tourism and Transport has its own research institutes, which carry out applied research and teaching in specific subject areas and strengthen the link between the university and the professional world.
The aviation industry is one of the most dynamic sectors of the economy. All currently available forecasts predict that global air traffic will continue to grow. This is accompanied by radical changes in transport policy within civil aviation, a growing awareness of environmental issues and new competitive strategies among airlines and airports.
The Competence Centre for Aviation Management (CCAM), as a research institution within the Faculty of Tourism and Transport, conducts applied research and teaching in the field of aviation management. Its range of services extends from carrying out research projects in passenger and air freight transport to practice-oriented training and further education through conferences and seminars. To this end, the CCAM works closely with aviation companies such as airlines and airports, whilst also making its interdisciplinary knowledge and methodological expertise available to national and international aviation regulatory bodies and private organisations. In doing so, the CCAM brings together the expertise of a team of professors with a proven track record in management, project work and consultancy.
Since 2023, the CCAM has been inviting renowned industry experts to Aviation Day at Worms University of Applied Sciences every year. With a changing range of cross-cutting themes, the conference provides a forum for discussing current trends and developments, as well as ample opportunities for networking.
In 2007, the Faculty of Tourism and Transport established the Institute of Business Travel Studies (IBTS) e.V., the first legally independent institute for business travel management at a German university.
The faculty was supported in this endeavour by high-ranking industry representatives, who joined the newly founded association as members.
The majority of IBTS members are companies affiliated with the German Business Travel Association (VDR) e.V., as well as professors, staff and students at Worms University of Applied Sciences.
Some of the companies that have co-opted the IBTS e.V. provide lecturers and guest speakers for the degree programmes in the Faculty of Tourism and Transport.
The Institute of Business Travel Studies (IBTS) e. V. aims to promote research and teaching in business travel management and to serve as a bridge between the university and the business community.
The institute also aims to promote and implement the interests of business travel management at national and international level through interdisciplinary academic projects, as well as through education and training in research and teaching.
The IBTS hosts the Business Travel Day at Worms University of Applied Sciences. Over the course of a day, interested students will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from the business travel industry.
Advisory Board
Since 2007, the Faculty of Tourism and Transport has been supported by an advisory board. It comprises more than 40 leading figures from the tourism and transport sectors. They bring the perspectives of prominent companies and organisations within the industry directly to the faculty.
The Advisory Board advises the Dean’s Office and the programme directors. It supports the faculty in the following tasks.
- It helps to further develop the faculty both strategically and structurally.
- It regularly reviews and improves the teaching and research programmes.
- It supports the self-evaluation and re-accreditation of degree programmes. As part of this process, the faculty reviews its own degree programmes and subsequently has them officially re-accredited.
- It supports students’ practical training, for example through work placements before and during their studies, as well as through practice-oriented semester projects and final theses.
- It helps graduates enter the workforce.
