An overview of the central application process
You have decided to study at Worms University of Applied Sciences. We are delighted about this. As part of your application, you will first go through the so-called ‘Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure’, or DoSV for short. This procedure determines the allocation of study places according to set criteria. This is a nationwide system run by the Foundation for University Admissions, through which many universities jointly coordinate their degree programmes with restricted admission. Whilst this may sound technical at first, in practice it involves just a few clear, sequential steps. You’ll start by registering with Hochschulstart, then submit your application via Worms University of Applied Sciences’ applicant portal, and finally prioritise your course choices. On this page, we explain each of these steps in detail. Should you have any questions along the way, Student Services is here to help you in person.
4 steps to securing a place at university
Step 1: Register with Hochschulstart
First, register on the Hochschulstart portal. Enter your personal details there. You will then receive an applicant ID (BID) and an applicant authentication number (BAN). You will need both numbers for Step 2: applying via the University of Worms’ applicant portal.
Please note: Multiple registrations are not permitted. If you register again despite this, only your most recent registration will be valid. All other registrations will be permanently deleted, including the associated applications. This also applies if you wish to apply for a later semester. Instead, simply continue to use your existing user account.
Step 2: Application via the Worms University of Applied Sciences applicant portal
After completing the Hochschulstart process, register on the Worms University of Applied Sciences applicant portal. There, you can submit up to three applications online.
Tip: Apply as early as possible. This allows us to process your application promptly, and you’ll be able to see in good time if any documents are missing. We will only process applications submitted shortly before the deadline after the deadline has passed.
Step 3: Prioritise your applications on Hochschulstart
Hochschulstart issues offers of admission primarily based on your preferences. You should therefore prioritise your applications according to your personal preferences. This is the only way that Hochschulstart can make you the offer that best suits your requirements. To prioritise your applications, click on the ‘Prioritise applications’ link under ‘My applications’, below the ‘Submitted applications’ table.
If possible, prioritise your applications by 22 January (summer semester) or 22 July (winter semester).
Prioritisation is crucial: during the coordination phase, universities continuously release ranking lists, meaning you could receive an offer of admission at any time. If you receive several offers at the same time, Hochschulstart’s coordination rules will automatically apply – this may, for example, result in the passive acceptance of an offer.
You can find out more about the coordination rules (opens in a new tab) directly from Hochschulstart.
Step 4: Co-ordination and supplementary allocation
After you have set your priorities, your application goes through two further phases: the coordination phase and – if necessary – the coordinated waiting list.
Co-ordination phase until 24 February or 24 August
During this phase, Worms University of Applied Sciences issues offers of admission to applicants.
Co-ordinated Waitlist, if necessary, from 25 February or 25 August
If study places remain available after the Coordination Phase, this additional phase begins. Only prospective students who did not receive an offer of admission during the Coordination Phase may take part. Rejected applicants will receive an email containing a link via which they can confirm their participation in the supplementary admission process. The link is valid for 72 hours. Prospective students who have not yet taken part in the process may also apply for places in the Coordinated Waitlist – provided that the relevant degree programme is participating in this phase. The university will draw up a new ranking list for the Coordinated Supplementary Allocation. This will be used once the existing ranking lists have been processed. In this phase, we allocate any remaining places by drawing lots.
