Applied Computer Science (dual-track) – Course description

On the Bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Computer Science, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science and apply your knowledge directly in a practical setting. This will prepare you for a career in IT.

Mit meinem Abschluss wurde ich bei meinem Partnerbetrieb übernommen, bei dem ich nun als DevOps Engineer an einer internen Entwicklungsplattform arbeite. Privat experimentiere ich immer mal wieder an Projekten im Kontext von Entwicklungswerkzeugen wie Lintern oder Language Servern. Aktuell genieße ich ein wenig die Ruhe, aber ein Masterstudium ist trotzdem in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft auf meiner Agenda.

Data Scientist

As a data scientist, you analyse and interpret large amounts of data to gain valuable insights for your company. You will develop algorithms and models that optimise business processes and support data-driven decisions.

You will use modern analysis tools, machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will work closely with various departments to implement data-based solutions and stay informed about new technologies and methods in the field of data science.

Software developer

As a software developer, you will design, programme and test software solutions for various applications. You will work in various sectors, from industry and retail to service companies.

Your tasks will include analysing requirements, developing software architectures and implementing program codes.

UX Designer

As a UX designer, you will focus on designing user interfaces and improving the user experience. You will analyse user behaviour, create prototypes and carry out usability tests to ensure that software products are intuitive and user-friendly.

IT Project Manager

Whether it's a software launch, system changeover or app development - as an IT project manager, you support technical projects from the initial idea through to implementation. You develop project plans, define goals and ensure that time, budget and resources remain in balance.
You work at the interface between technology and organisation. You liaise with development teams, clients and other stakeholders, identify risks at an early stage and make decisions to ensure the success of the project. Flexibility, structured thinking and clear communication are part of your daily tools of the trade.

IT security specialist

As an IT security specialist, you protect networks, systems and data from attacks. You analyse vulnerabilities, develop security strategies and respond to security incidents. In this way, you ensure that organisations can have confidence in their digital infrastructure.

Course content

Learn computer science and put it into practice straight away

On the dual Bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Computer Science at Worms University of Applied Sciences, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science right from the start. These include programming, databases, networks and operating systems. You will apply your knowledge directly within your partner company.

Theory and practical phases alternate regularly throughout the programme. During the practical phases, you will work at the company and gain professional experience. A supervised project in collaboration with your company will also prepare you for your career start.

Three specialisation areas

From the third semester onwards, you can choose one of three specialisations:

  • Software Engineering & Development: You will deepen your knowledge of software development and software architecture.
  • Visual Computing: You will study computer graphics, image processing and visual systems.
  • Networks & Security: You will explore network technologies and IT security.

In addition, you can tailor your study programme to suit your interests through compulsory elective modules.

Your degree concludes with a Bachelor’s thesis. You will often work on a real-world case study from your workplace. After graduation, you can work in various areas of IT or further deepen your knowledge by pursuing a Master’s degree.

    In der Bachelorarbeit wenden Sie Ihre im Studium erworbenen Fach- und Methodenkenntnisse selbstständig auf eine konkrete praktische oder wissenschaftliche Aufgabenstellung an. Sie lernen, ein abgegrenztes Informatikproblem eigenständig zu bearbeiten, geeignete Methoden einzusetzen und die Ergebnisse wissenschaftlich zu dokumentieren. Die Arbeit wird abschließend in einem Kolloquium präsentiert und verteidigt.

CP = Credit Points: Das sind die Punkte, die du dir während eines Studiums verdienen musst, um deinen Abschluss zu bekommen. Am Ende müssen es mindestens 180 CP sein, dann bist du Bachelor. Wenn du die Variante mit 210 CP wählst, kannst du den Master in Angewandte Informatik direkt anschließen.
