Information on Use & Media Loans
For students from the 2026 summer semester onwards
From the 2026 summer semester onwards, you can apply to use the library directly when you enrol. The application is part of the enrolment form.
- If you have applied for library access when you enrol, we will set up your library account automatically.
- If you wish to register at a later date, you can do so via the ICMS portal.

In-person registration
In all other cases, you must register in person at the library in order to borrow items.
Documents required:
- University members: University ID card
- External users: valid identity card or passport with proof of residence
- Minors: Consent form signed by a parent or guardian
Registration forms:
For external users, the library card is valid for one year. You can renew it. A one-off fee applies for issuing the card.
We accept applications for library cards outside core opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.). You can borrow items from the library from the following day at the earliest.
Lending media
To lend items, you will need:
- as a student or university staff member, your university card
- as an external user, your library card
Please present your card each time you lend items.
You may lend up to 40 items at a time.
Loose-leaf collections and newspapers cannot be lended.
Loan periods
Books: 3 weeks
CD-ROMs/DVDs: 3 weeks
Single issues of a journal: 3 days
Reference copies (red band): 3 days
Semester reading lists: 3 days
Extend the loan period
You can extend the loan period.
You can renew your loan no earlier than one week before the loan period ends.
If the item has not been reserved by another person, you can lend it again once the loan period has expired.
How to extend the loan period:
- In person: Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 7.00 pm; during the non-lecture period until 4.00 pm

Reserve items
- You can reserve items that are currently on loan.
- As soon as the item is ready for collection, we will notify you automatically.
- We will hold reserved items for you for seven calendar days.
Here’s how to reserve items:

Book pick-up station
A Book pick-up station is available in the university’s 24-hour room. You can use it 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When ordering items, please specify that you would like to collect them from the Book pick-up station.
The library team will prepare your order and place the items in a collection locker.
You will receive an email containing the number of your collection locker. The email will also include the code to open the locker.
Returning items via our book return boxes
Outside opening hours, you can return media via our book return boxes.
One book return box is located in the lockers area. You can use it during opening hours in Building A.
A second book return box is located in the 24-hour room. It is accessible round the clock.
We empty the book return boxes daily. Once this has been done, the items are considered returned and will be removed from your loan account.
On request, we can post media to the home addresses of students and other university members in Germany. There is a charge for this service.
The following items can be ordered
• books and other items available for loan that are held by the library and are not currently on loan,
• titles ordered for you via interlibrary loan,
• reserved items that have been made available.
The following will not be sent:
• loose-leaf publications,
• Individual issues of journals.
Costs:
Per item (book, CD, etc.) €3 + flat-rate postage fee of €8
Fee Schedule (from 1 September 2023)
In accordance with the ‘Library Regulations of Worms University of Applied Sciences of 7 May 2003’, Section 10(2) and Section 17(2), and the ‘State Ordinance on Fees in the Fields of Academia, Continuing Education and Research / Special Schedule of Fees’ of 27 November 2014, as well as the Interlibrary Loan Regulations (LVO of 8 July 2004), and the Order on the Application of the ‘State Ordinance on Fees for Administrative Acts of a General Nature (General Schedule of Fees)’, in the version dated 8 November 2007 (GVBl. 2007, p. 277), as last amended by the Ordinance of 22 March 2019 (GVBl. p. 31) and the ‘State Ordinance on Fees in the Fields of Academia, Continuing Education and Research (Special Schedule of Fees)’ of 27 November 2014 (GVBl. 2014, p. 279), as last amended by the Regulation of 10 February 2022 (GVBl. p. 57), for Worms University of Applied Sciences.
Payment methods:
- Please pay library fees by card or debit card using the payment terminal on the ground floor of University Building A. Fees paid will be automatically credited to your user account.
- Special case: Payment by bank transfer
- Please notify us by email at the following address: bibliothek@hs-worms.de.
- We will then send you the necessary information.
